Frequently Asked Questions

  • WellSort is an engaging digital card sort platform designed by a mental health counselor and health promotion researcher with over 15 years experience working in higher ed. WellSort helps college students and campus communities clarify, reflect on, and prioritize their wellbeing needs, while connecting students to the resources they need to thrive.

WellSort offers three values card sort tools: the Student Wellbeing Deck, the Employee Wellbeing Deck, and the Career Values Deck.

  • A values card sort is a reflective self-assessment that helps people organize, prioritize, and make sense of what’s most important in their lives. Each person interprets the card statements in their own way, bringing their unique situations and experiences to the process.

Card sorts offer helpful prompts, language, and structure to guide decision-making and personal reflection. They’re friendly, game-like, and even fun(!), making them much less intimidating than assessments that assign a “score” and can sometimes feel like a test.

  • The Student Wellbeing Deck includes 36 wellbeing priority cards rooted in the Eight Dimensions of Wellbeing. It helps students discover and act on what matters most to them.

  • Students follow a simple, guided process to sort digital wellbeing priority cards into three categories, helping them clarify what’s most important to them. Afterward, they select and reflect on their top priorities, build a personal wellbeing action plan with manageable steps, and receive information about how to connect directly with campus resources tailored to their needs, empowering them to take charge of their mental health and wellbeing.

  • The cards are based on the Eight Dimensions of Wellbeing. Each card statement is flexible, allowing students to apply and interpret it in their own way, and recognize that their priorities may fit into multiple wellbeing dimensions.

  • The digital card sort tool helps students clarify and reflect on their wellbeing needs, set realistic goals, take actionable steps, connect to relevant resources, and build wellbeing literacy and confidence. By using our platform, students learn how wellbeing dimensions connect and better understand how their needs fit into a bigger, holistic picture of wellbeing.

  • The Student Wellbeing Deck is a helpful tool for faculty and staff to spark supportive conversations with students, identify wellbeing challenges, and connect students to campus or community resources. By leveraging student engagement activities like a values card sort tool, colleges build a culture of caring that encourages an open, supportive environment to help students thrive.

  • Anyone who supports college students can use it - whether your focus is health promotion, advising, counseling, academic affairs, athletics, residence life, or co-curricular programs. The card sort benefits students across all areas of campus life.

  • Campuses have access to their students’ aggregate wellbeing data via an interactive, real-time data dashboard with options to filter by date and student demographics - helping align wellbeing initiatives and resources with the needs students report. This data-driven approach supports individual and community health promotion across campus.

  • Yes! While the experience is optimal on a laptop, desktop, or tablet, the entire card sort process can be completed on a mobile phone.

  • The WellSort team is always happy to answer questions, demonstrate the platform, or share examples of how other campuses use these tools. Just reach out via our contact form at the bottom of this page or email us at hello@wellsort.com!
